New Delhi, June 29, 2026: SOMANY Ceramics Limited, ranked among India's and the world's 12th largest ceramic and building materials companies, has announced a series of solar power developments across its manufacturing facilities, marking a notable step in its ongoing push to reduce reliance on conventional grid electricity.
The company has secured 9.9 MW of renewable energy capacity through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the 103 MWp Sirsa Solar Project in Haryana, operating in a captive model. This arrangement will supply the Kassar manufacturing plant with clean power for the next 25 years and is projected to generate roughly 1.56 crore units (kWh) of renewable electricity each year, covering a significant share of the plant's energy needs.
In a separate development, SOMANY has commissioned a 2.5 MW rooftop solar system at the Sudha Somany Ceramics Pvt. Ltd. facility in Tirupati under an OPEX model. Backed by a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the installation is expected to produce around 30 lakh units (kWh) of clean electricity annually.
These new additions complement existing solar infrastructure already in place — a 2.5 MWp rooftop system at Kassar, a 1 MWp system at the Kadi plant, and 1 MWp open access power arrangements each at Kadi and Somany Piastrelle Private Limited. Together, the total renewable energy portfolio is now expected to generate nearly 2.54 crore units of green electricity per year, contributing to a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Abhishek Somany, Managing Director & CEO, SOMANY Ceramics Limited, said, "As a responsible corporate citizen, we are committed to progressively transforming our manufacturing ecosystem through cleaner technologies, responsible resource management and increased adoption of renewable energy. The anchor of our decarbonization journey lies in accelerating our transition toward a diversified, green energy mix. We have ramped up the consumption of solar power across our primary manufacturing facilities. Simultaneously, we have institutionalized advanced waste heat recovery systems (WHRS) across our production lines. Complementing our green power migration is our uncompromising approach to resource circularity. Our production facilities operate on advanced closed-loop filtration mechanisms to maintain zero liquid discharge (ZLD) milestones, treating and recirculating 100% of process water back into our operations. Furthermore, our raw material sourcing strategy has been heavily optimized to substitute virgin minerals with recycled ceramic scrap."
The latest initiatives reflect SOMANY Ceramics' broader commitment to sustainable manufacturing, resource efficiency and alignment with India's national renewable energy goals.
