TCS Literacy Programme Reaches 2.7 Million Learners Annually
Mumbai, September 7, 2026: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said its Literacy Programme reached 2.7 million learners in FY26, as the company marked International Literacy Day by highlighting its work in literacy, digital inclusion and technology-enabled learning.
Launched by Dr. F.C. Kohli, the TCS Literacy Programme has been running for more than 26 years, with a focus on women and underserved communities. Since its inception, the programme has reached more than 5.1 million beneficiaries and 493,928 facilitators.
The programme covers functional, financial and digital literacy, awareness of citizen entitlements, digital fraud and disaster resilience. It uses regional content and technology-enabled learning pathways to deliver literacy support.
An employee and citizen volunteering initiative, Each one Empowers one, is also part of the programme. Launched in 2022, the digital platform has registered more than 11,177 volunteers and recorded 20,044 certified beneficiaries.
Joseph Sunil Nallapalli, Global Head, CSR, TCS, said, “At TCS, we view literacy as a catalyst for social and economic empowerment, enabling individuals to participate more fully in society and shape better futures for themselves and their families. Through the TCS Literacy Programme, we are helping create pathways to dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihoods for millions.”
The programme also focuses on improving livelihood opportunities, particularly for women, by helping learners develop skills to manage enterprises, access financial services and make informed decisions. It also supports marginalised communities in accessing services and entitlements and developing foundational digital skills.
TCS’s education initiatives extend to K-12 learners through Ignite My Future (IMF) and go Innovate Together (goIT). IMF has reached more than 2.7 million educators and students across 17 countries, while goIT has reached 396,342 students across 67 countries, according to the company.
Together, these programmes form part of TCS’s broader focus on literacy, digital inclusion and future-ready education, with the stated objective of improving access to learning and supporting pathways towards sustainable livelihoods.
