Vedanta’s Nand Ghar Programme Engages 2 Lakh Mothers in Child Nutrition
New Delhi, September 7, 2026: Vedanta Group’s Nand Ghar programme has engaged nearly 2 lakh mothers through its Mother’s Food Preparation Programme, enabling 15 lakh meals for children and providing nearly ₹60 lakh in remuneration through UPI.
The initiative, highlighted during National Nutrition Week, involves mothers preparing fresh meals for children at Nand Ghars, Vedanta’s network of modernised Anganwadi centres. The centres focus on health and nutrition, early childhood education and women’s empowerment.
Under the programme, Nand Ghar Didis (Anganwadi workers) identify and engage mothers from local communities. Participation is organised through a monthly roster, allowing mothers to contribute to meal preparation while earning additional income.
The programme currently reaches nearly 5 lakh children and 4 lakh women through more than 15,000 centres across 18 states. Its nutrition interventions combine food preparation with nutrition awareness, healthcare and early childhood development.
According to Vedanta, 97% of children are receiving food through the programme, while 97% of Nand Ghars report improved appetite and attendance among children. Further, 99% of children are observed to be active and happy after meals, while 89% finish their entire meal.
The programme also uses locally available food ingredients through interventions such as millet-based Nutri Bars, Shishu Sanjeevani, a fortified halwa developed by NDDB, and fresh fruit supplementation.
In Rajasthan, Project Balvardhan combines nutrition and health interventions, including food supplementation, growth monitoring, maternal participation, nutrition awareness and healthcare support for children and mothers.
Shashi Arora, CEO, Nand Ghar, said, “Nutrition becomes truly sustainable when communities are empowered to make it a part of everyday life. By bringing mothers directly into food preparation and combining this with nutrition awareness, scientific interventions and healthcare support, we are helping families build healthier practices that can continue beyond the Nand Ghar. This approach reflects our Chairman, Anil Agarwal’s larger vision of creating meaningful and lasting change by empowering communities and investing in the wellbeing of India’s next generation. Our endeavour is to ensure that every child has access to the nourishment they need to grow, learn and thrive, while mothers are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and opportunity to play an active role in shaping their children’s development.”
The initiative combines community participation with nutrition and health interventions, with the stated objective of strengthening dietary practices and awareness among children and families.
