New Delhi, June 06, 2026: On World Environment Day, Nestlé India reaffirmed its commitment to reducing plastic waste through responsible packaging, plastic collection and processing, and community-based waste management initiatives.

The company stated that it continues to focus on strengthening circular economy solutions and advancing responsible waste management practices across India.

Kunwar Himmat Singh, Head, Corporate Affairs, Sustainability and CSR, Nestlé India, said, “Addressing plastic waste requires action at every stage – from how we design our packaging to how it is collected and managed after use. We are proud of the progress we have made, but we know there is more to do, and we remain committed to being part of the solution.”

According to Nestlé India, it collected and processed an amount of plastic packaging equivalent to what it introduced into the market during FY 2025-26. This amounted to approximately 25,000 metric tonnes of plastic packaging being managed through recycling and other approved recovery solutions.

The company said it has remained plastic neutral since 2020 and continues to strengthen systems that support responsible plastic waste management.

As part of its packaging strategy, Nestlé India is working to reduce plastic use and increase the incorporation of recycled materials. Initiatives include redesigning coffee sachets to use less plastic, continuing the use of thermoformed cups for MAGGI Cuppa, and increasing recycled plastic content across coffee, ketchup, chocolate, and confectionery packaging.

The company is also addressing waste management challenges through Project Hilldaari, implemented in partnership with Plan Foundation. The programme currently operates in 10 tourist destinations across India, including the recently added locations of Shimla and Theog.

During FY 2025-26, Project Hilldaari engaged more than 130,000 households to promote source segregation of waste. The initiative achieved a segregation rate of 78% across project locations and diverted over 13,000 metric tonnes of waste from landfills.

In addition, more than 250 training sessions were conducted for over 1,500 waste workers to promote safer working practices and strengthen local waste management systems.

Nestlé India said it will continue collaborating with local administrations, communities, and implementation partners to support waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable waste management efforts across the country.
