Mumbai, May 18, 2026: JK Lakshmi Cement Limited participated in a strategic discussion with H.E. Maya Tissafi on low-carbon cement innovation, sustainable construction and long-term industry collaboration. The meeting focused on the progress of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) technology and the future of decarbonisation in the cement sector.

The discussion highlighted the role of LC3 as a low-carbon cement technology capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 40 per cent compared to conventional cement. The meeting also reflected on the increasing importance of sustainable construction materials as India continues to expand its infrastructure and urban development activities.

Ms. Vinita Singhania, Chairperson & Managing Director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, “The transition of LC3 from research and pilot implementation to commercial production reflects what meaningful collaboration between industry, academia, and global institutions can achieve over time. As India continues to expand its infrastructure and urban development footprint, sustainable construction materials will play an increasingly important role in shaping resilient and resource-efficient growth. Our production of Green Pro LC3 cement has been guided by a long-term commitment towards responsible manufacturing, operational excellence, and solutions that create enduring value for both industry and society.”

According to the company, JK Lakshmi Cement is among the first two cement manufacturers in India to commercially produce LC3 after the Bureau of Indian Standards approved it as a cement standard. The company has been associated with the LC3 initiative since 2014 and worked with research and implementation partners including EPFL Switzerland, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, Development Alternatives and TARA.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and international research institutions working in sustainable construction technologies, including EPFL, EMPA and ETH Zurich. Discussions covered areas such as climate-responsive industrial solutions, resource optimisation and the role of low-carbon construction materials in supporting India’s infrastructure growth.

H.E. Maya Tissafi acknowledged JK Lakshmi Cement’s contribution towards advancing LC3 adoption in India and appreciated the company’s role in taking the technology from research to commercial implementation.

India remains the world’s second-largest cement producer, with rising demand driven by urbanisation, housing and infrastructure development. In this context, low-carbon technologies such as LC3 are gaining importance as the industry strengthens its focus on environmental efficiency and sustainable manufacturing practices.
