Telangana, June 11, 2026: The Future City Development Authority (FCDA) Office Building has become the first government building in Telangana to receive the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Net Zero Energy Certification by Design.
The certification was presented by Mr. C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, IGBC, to Mr. K. Shashanka, IAS, Commissioner, Future City Development Authority (FCDA), Telangana, in the presence of Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, during an inaugural ceremony held at Future City on June 10, 2026.
The certification recognises the building’s design, which aims to offset 100% of its annual energy consumption through a combination of onsite renewable energy generation and green power procurement.
Speaking at the event, Shri Revanth Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Telangana, said, "Telangana is committed to building the cities that are sustainable, resilient, and environmentally responsible. The FCDA building achieving the IGBC Net Zero Energy Design Certification, the first government building in Telangana to do so, is a significant milestone in this journey. It demonstrates how public infrastructure can lead by example in adopting green building practices and reducing environmental impact. As we shape Future City and other urban development initiatives, sustainability will remain at the core of our vision. I encourage government institutions, private developers, industries, and citizens to embrace green and net zero building principles. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more energy-efficient Telangana for generations to come."
According to FCDA, the building features a 40 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic system expected to generate around 60,000 kWh of renewable energy annually. The remaining energy demand will be met through green power procurement under Telangana’s Green Tariff policy.
The office building also incorporates energy-efficient measures, including a high-performance HVAC system, energy-efficient lighting, and architectural features designed to maximise natural daylight, reducing dependence on artificial lighting.
Receiving the certification, Shri K. Shashanka, IAS, Commissioner, Future City Development Authority (FCDA), said, "This recognition reflects our commitment to creating Future City as a model for sustainable urban development. The FCDA Office Building shows how innovative design, renewable energy integration and resource-efficient planning can come together to create infrastructure that is environmentally responsible and future-ready."
Mr. C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), added, "The FCDA Office Building sets a new benchmark for sustainable government infrastructure in Telangana. By embracing Net Zero Energy principles at the design stage, the project demonstrates how public buildings can lead the transition towards a low-carbon and energy-efficient future. We congratulate the Government of Telangana and FCDA for this pioneering achievement."
The project is part of Telangana’s broader efforts to develop Future City as a sustainable and resilient urban ecosystem while promoting green building practices across public infrastructure.
