Idukki, Kerala, 29 May 2026: Experion Technologies, through its CSR arm Experion Foundation, has inaugurated the first Women’s Empowerment Centre under Project EDEM (Edamalakudi Development and Empowerment Mission) at Thenparakudi Unnathi in Edamalakudi Panchayath, Idukki district, Kerala.
The centre has been established for women from the Muthuvan tribal community and is designed to provide a safe, hygienic, and dignified space while respecting local customs and cultural practices. The initiative forms part of Experion Foundation’s efforts to support underserved communities through need-based interventions.
According to the Foundation, the centre addresses a long-standing community need by providing women with improved facilities during menstruation, a period when they traditionally stay away from their homes. The facility includes hygienic toilets, a kitchen, resting areas, sewing machines, television with DTH connectivity, and storage space for handicrafts and other creative work.
Beyond serving as a temporary shelter, the centre has been envisioned as a community space where women can engage in skill-building activities, connect with one another, and access improved living conditions.
The initiative seeks to promote women’s wellbeing by improving access to hygiene, safe spaces, community support, and livelihood-oriented opportunities while remaining sensitive to local traditions.
Suresh Panicker, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, Experion Technologies, said, “Project EDEM holds a very special place in our journey of compassionate service because it began with listening. In 2023, during a back-to-school support initiative across tribal schools in Idukki, Edamalakudi was the one place we could not directly reach because of poor road connectivity, forest-route restrictions, and complex permissions. That moment stayed with us and led us to listen more closely to the lived realities of the community. Through conversations with teachers, residents, and community members, we came to understand the difficult conditions faced by women in certain traditional spaces. We realised that traditions rooted in generations cannot be approached with judgement or haste. But dignity can be introduced within tradition. That thought became the heart of Project EDEM.”
The implementation of the project faced several logistical challenges, including difficult terrain, limited road connectivity, transportation of construction materials, regulatory clearances, adverse weather conditions, and disturbances from wild animals. Despite these hurdles, the project was completed with support from government officials, tribal leaders, volunteers, and local community members.
Reflecting on the completion of the centre, Suresh Panicker added, “What stands before us today is not just a completed building. It is a promise that even the quietest struggles of women in the most remote communities deserve to be heard. This centre is a symbol of hope, dignity, and collective compassion.”
Experion Foundation said the inauguration marks the beginning of a broader effort under Project EDEM to create safer and more empowering spaces for women across Edamalakudi. The organisation stated that it will continue to focus on community development initiatives guided by its values of empathy, ethics, and excellence.
