Mumbai, May 21, 2026: Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Limited to strengthen climate resilience initiatives across Maharashtra. The agreement was signed on May 20, 2026, in the presence of Devendra Fadnavis.

The partnership aims to support habitat improvement and build resilience among vulnerable communities against heat, drought, floods and other climate-related risks through data-driven and technology-enabled interventions.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Maharashtra contributes nearly ₹36,000 crore annually in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding and stressed the importance of using these resources equitably across districts through technology-led solutions.

Sanjay Shripatrao Katkar said the Government of Maharashtra intends to facilitate the CSR ecosystem rather than regulate it. He added that MahaIT is developing a dedicated CSR platform to provide visibility into onboarding, implementation and compliance processes for corporates, donors and implementing agencies.

AKAH India works on creating resilient habitats that help communities adapt to climate change and disasters, while MahaIT serves as the state government’s nodal agency for information technology, e-governance and digital governance initiatives.

Prerana Langa, Chief Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India said, “This MoU will further streamline actionable, large-scale implementation within a facilitative, collaborative framework. Through our heat mitigation interventions in informal settlements, schools, and housing societies across Mira Bhayandar and Chandrapur, AKAH India has demonstrated measurable improvements in thermal comfort, with indoor temperatures reduced by up to 4–6°C in vulnerable communities. This collaboration underscores our commitment to urban habitat risk resilience, biodiversity preservation and water security. Our focus as always will remain on Climatic vulnerable zones and communities on the margins with a special focus on women and children.”

According to the organisations, the partnership will focus on future collaborations in heat and flood mitigation, ecosystem-based climate adaptation, urban greening, water and energy efficiency in schools, and integration of IoT and smart technologies.

The two organisations also plan to work on knowledge sharing, pilot projects, training programmes, research, documentation, policy insights and digital public solutions to strengthen climate-responsive development initiatives across the state.
