Tvarra Organises Road Safety Initiative for Women Riders in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, 16 February, 2026: Tvarra conducted a one-day road safety initiative for women two-wheeler riders in Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Cubbon Park Traffic Police, a division of the Bengaluru Traffic Police. The programme focused on improving helmet usage among women riders and pillion passengers.

As part of the initiative, helmets were distributed to women scooter riders and pillion riders who were found travelling without adequate protective gear. Tvarra also presented helmets to women traffic police constables in recognition of their service and continued efforts to promote road safety in the city.

The initiative highlights ongoing concerns around protective gear accessibility and suitability for women riders. While women account for a significant share of two-wheeler riders and pillion passengers, access to well-fitting and purpose-designed helmets remains limited. In many cases, pillion riders travel without helmets, increasing safety risks.

Ms. Alpana Parida, Founder and CEO of Tvarra, reflected on the initiative, saying, “If you look at the roads every day, you’ll see so many women riding two-wheelers, but very few are actually wearing helmets. And even when they are, it’s often just to tick a box: a helmet that doesn’t fit well, isn’t designed for them, or is simply a smaller version of a men’s helmet. That’s a real safety gap. Through this collaboration, we want to meet women where they are and show that safety can be comfortable, well-designed, and truly made for them, not an afterthought.”

By working directly with traffic authorities and engaging riders on the ground, the initiative aims to encourage safer riding practices and increase awareness around proper helmet use.

Through such efforts, Tvarra continues to focus on addressing practical gaps in road safety for women riders, while supporting enforcement and awareness initiatives led by local traffic authorities.
