Amazon, FluxGen to Deploy Water Conservation Project at NCL Pune

Pune, India | September 11, 2026: Amazon India has partnered with water technology start-up FluxGen to deploy an integrated water conservation project at the 380-acre National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) research campus in Pune. The project is expected to replenish an estimated 178 million litres of water annually once completed by the end of 2026.

The project will combine smart sensors and water-efficient fixtures, including aerators and waterless urinals, to reduce water consumption. It will also include wastewater capture and recycling, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge systems across the campus.

The initiative will also include an experiential learning programme scheduled to launch in 2027. It will involve quarterly student visits to the NCL campus, water conservation clubs in local schools and “HydroQuest,” an educational board game focused on water conservation.

Amazon said it recently achieved water-positive status in India, returning 120% of the water used across its direct operations to communities and the environment, ahead of its 2027 target. The company has committed more than ₹62 crore to water stewardship initiatives across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi NCR, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, with projects expected to replenish more than 4 billion litres annually.
