Bengaluru, April 25, 2026: Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives (SFPI) has launched ‘Navahitam’, an initiative aimed at improving access to fresh and nutritious food for underserved communities, including children and senior citizens.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), the initiative focuses on strengthening food security through sustainable sourcing and efficient last-mile distribution. Navahitam builds a network connecting farmers, wholesale partners, and community institutions to ensure consistent availability of fresh produce.

Launched as a pilot in 2024, the programme also addresses food wastage by channeling surplus and fresh produce from farms to communities in need. The produce is sourced through an organic farming ecosystem and distributed across a growing network of beneficiary organisations.

As of March 2026, the initiative has distributed 242,470.6 kg of vegetables, fruits, and groceries, along with 2,790 kg of organic snacks and 54,730 eggs. The supply network includes more than 25 farmers in Tamil Nadu and multiple wholesale partners. Beneficiaries include organisations such as Bosco Mane, ECHO, Infant Jesus Children’s Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, and several care centres and shelters.

Navahitam currently supports around 1,500 people ежедневно and operates primarily from Maple Tree Farms in Tamil Nadu, with additional support from DG Palli farm in Hosur, which supplies nutrient-rich produce, including a variety of greens.

Commenting on the launch, Mrs. Kumari Shibulal, Founder and Chairperson of SFPI, said, “At SFPI, we believe that access to nutritious food is fundamental to dignity and well-being. This World Earth Day, Navahitam is a reminder that sustainability and social equity must go hand in hand. By connecting responsible surplus management across farming, fresh produce and grocery wholesaler systems with community nutrition, we are working towards a future where both people and the planet thrive.”

The initiative aims to scale its operations further, with a target of reaching a total distribution of 30,000 kg by the end of the year, along with plans to expand to other cities. SFPI continues to focus on long-term, scalable solutions across food security, healthcare, and community development through its philanthropic programmes.
