New Delhi, 12 April 2021: The state of Punjab has witnessed a significant jump of close to 195 % in the CSR funding over the period of 2014-19. The state which received a CSR fund of around Rs 56 Cr in 2014-15 saw the corporates pouring in close to Rs 165 Cr in 2018-19 for different CSR projects.
Thus, the CSR funding growth in the state during the 5-year period was recorded at 195 %. During the same period, the average national growth in CSR funding to the states was close to 85 % only.
Corporate line up with CSR activities
During the last 5 years, the number of corporates also grew almost three-fold in the state. In the year 2014-15, the number of companies undertaking CSR activities was just 96. However, the year 2018-19 saw a total of 265 companies doing CSR projects in the state.
During the same period, the coverage of CSR activities also broadened within the state. The state had only 14 districts covers under CSR projects. In 2018-19, the area for CSR activities expanded to a total of 17 districts.
Healthcare, Environment sectors emerge biggest gainers
As the CSR funding to the state grew significantly, the key sectors like Education, Healthcare and Environment saw major boost in the CSR spent.
The biggest gainer among the key sectors was healthcare which saw 250 % jump in the CSR funding to the related CSR projects in the state.
Environment sector also saw an increment of close to 160 % in the CSR funding. The sector saw the total funds zooming from Rs 1903 Cr in 2014-15 to Rs 4933 Cr in 2018-19.
