Tamil Nadu, March 06, 2026: Omega Forum for Social Impact (OFSI), the social impact arm of Omega Healthcare, has launched a three-year development initiative aimed at improving women’s health, social security and livelihood opportunities in rural Tamil Nadu.
The project, titled Building Health, Social Security and Livelihoods for Rural Women, was inaugurated on February 25, 2026, at Thiruchuli in Virudhunagar district in partnership with Swasti – The Health Catalyst. The initiative will be implemented across the Thiruchuli and Aruppukottai blocks over a period of three years.
Adopting a community-led approach, the programme focuses on strengthening access to primary healthcare services, increasing coverage of social protection schemes and promoting sustainable livelihoods for rural women. The launch event was attended by representatives from district administration, public health institutions, academia, corporate leadership and farmer collectives.
Ms. Sunanda, CEO, Omega Forum for Social Impact (OFSI), said, “Women’s empowerment is the most reliable driver of social change because women reinvest knowledge, income, and opportunity back into their families and communities.”
Mr. Narayanan V, Senior Vice President – RM, Omega Healthcare, who attended as Chief Guest, said, “Virudhunagar has a strong tradition of social investment. As the birthplace of K. Kamaraj, it showed the nation how education can transform society. Today, investing in women carries that legacy forward.”
Mr. Antony Eapen, Director – HRBP, Omega Healthcare, stated, “This three-year project represents a shared commitment of corporates, communities, and women leaders. I wish it every success and hope it becomes a model for empowerment across rural India.”
Over the course of the project, the initiative aims to improve access to basic healthcare services for around 30,000 women. It also plans to help 22,500 women access government welfare schemes, including health insurance and pension benefits.
In addition, the programme will support sustainable livelihoods for 150 women through goat-rearing initiatives backed by training and a revolving fund mechanism. The project will also promote collective enterprise by linking women’s groups with Meshavaram Agricultural Producer Company Limited and strengthening local leadership for long-term sustainability.
Through this integrated approach, the initiative aims to strengthen community-based systems and improve the overall quality of life for women in Virudhunagar district.
