Hyderabad, March 18, 2024: Mahindra University and the Mahesh Babu Foundation have jointly organised a run to support children battling with congenital heart disease.

Titled Heartathon, the run was spearheaded by the Outreach Club of Mahindra University in collaboration with the Mahesh Babu Foundation (MB Foundation) on March 16. Approximately 300 individuals participated in the event, running either a 3 km or a 5 km route around the outer track of KBR Park.

The event offered two distinct paths, a 3 km and a 5 km route, catering to participants of varying fitness levels. Notably, separate categories for girls and boys ensured equal opportunities for all, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the event.

Namrata Shirodkar, the co-founder of the MB Foundation, graced the occasion and personally felicitated the winners during the awards ceremony. She expressed gratitude to all the participants for their support and dedication to the cause.

Founded by renowned actor Mahesh Babu and his wife Namrata Shirodkar, the MB Foundation is committed to various social causes, with a special focus on healthcare initiatives for children. MB Foundation and the Outreach Club’s collective effort not only showcased their commitment to assisting children battling congenital heart disease but also highlighted the power of community solidarity in driving positive change.

Sponsors like Anvi, FoodSutra, Country Delight, and SBI provided invaluable support, ensuring that participants received essential resources and refreshments, making the event a resounding success.

In essence, "Heartathon" exemplified the collaborative spirit between the Outreach Club and the Mahesh Babu Foundation, demonstrating their shared dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of children battling congenital heart disease, and underscoring the Foundation's broader commitment to social welfare initiatives.

According to a study, the estimated number of children born with congenital heart disease in India is over 200,000 per year. It is found that most babies born with this condition are from the populous states, such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. These babies do not receive the care they deserve. There are hardly enough centres in the country that cater to children with this condition.
