Jewar Airport Deploys Low-Emission Furniture to Advance Net-Zero Goals

csr

Noida, April 13, 2026: Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport) has introduced low-emission certified furniture and workstation systems across its terminals and operational areas, positioning itself among the first airports in India to adopt such solutions at scale.

The deployment, executed by AFC Furniture Solutions, includes over 6,000 furniture systems installed across nearly 1,00,000 sq. m of terminal and back-office space. The installations cover a wide range of infrastructure, including public seating, lounge systems, modular workstations, control desks, and specialised operational setups.

Designed using low-emission materials, the furniture contributes to improved indoor air quality (IAQ) while aligning with the airport’s broader sustainability goals. The workstations are up to 66% recyclable and have a reported carbon footprint of 115.43 kg CO₂e (cradle-to-gate), supporting the airport’s ambition to handle 12 million passengers annually with reduced environmental impact.

The initiative forms part of Noida International Airport’s larger plan to become India’s first net-zero airport, integrating clean energy, efficient design, and low-impact operational practices. Unlike traditional airport infrastructure, where sustainability is often limited to building design, this approach extends environmental considerations to interior systems and operational components.

Maanoj Tomar, Founder of AFC Furniture Solutions, said, “The Jewar airport is not just a project of scale, but one of intent. Every element is designed to perform consistently, sustainably, and under pressure. Notably, the low emission furniture contributes to a large chunk of the airport’s net-zero ambition, reducing the emission from a standard 20% to less than 5%. The project aligns with infrastructure-scale timelines while meeting stringent compliance and sustainability benchmarks.”

The project, spanning over 5 lakh sq. ft., was completed in two phases with zero delays, involving precision manufacturing and coordinated execution. The airport has been designed by an international consortium including Nordic, Grimshaw, Haptic, and STUP, blending global design principles with local architectural elements inspired by Uttar Pradesh’s ghats and havelis.

For operational teams, the airport features ergonomic workstations and control desks designed for continuous, high-frequency use in control rooms, screening zones, and administrative offices. Passenger areas are equipped with tech-enabled seating and lounge systems designed to optimise comfort, efficiency, and turnaround time.

Mr. Tomar added, “The airport’s design draws from local culture and architecture capturing Uttar Pradesh’s ghats and havelis. NIA has already earned India’s first IGBC-certified green airport campus tag, and we are proud that our furniture manufactured in an IGBC Gold-rated facility, verified through ISO 14064-aligned GHG inventories, and backed by third-party-verified LCAs meets that same bar. This project reinforces that net-zero infrastructure demands net-zero thinking at every touchpoint, including the furniture.”

The initiative reflects a growing shift in infrastructure development, where sustainability is embedded across all layers—from design and construction to operations and user experience.
