Mumbai, April 02, 2026: HSBC India has successfully concluded the 12th edition of its India Business Case Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing employability and leadership skills among undergraduate students.
The programme witnessed participation from nearly 10,000 students representing over 400 colleges across the country, with 59% of participating institutions coming from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. A total of 2,500 teams took part in the competition, reflecting growing engagement from students nationwide.
From this pool, 24 teams comprising 96 students advanced to the national round held in Mumbai. Christ University, Bengaluru emerged as the winning team, while Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi secured the runner-up position. Both teams will represent India at the HSBC/HKU Business Case Challenge scheduled to be held in Hong Kong in June 2026.
The national round was inaugurated by Aloka Majumdar, MD and Head of Sustainability at HSBC India, in the presence of senior leadership. The programme was implemented in collaboration with United Way of Mumbai, Sattva Consulting, and MindMap Consulting.
The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between education and employability by offering students hands-on experience in solving real-world business challenges. Participants engage in structured learning modules, mentorship sessions, and presentations that simulate workplace environments, helping build skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication.
Aloka Majumdar, MD, Head of Sustainability, HSBC India, said, “India’s growth story depends on how effectively we bridge the gap between education and employability. The India Business case programme is part of HSBC India’s commitment to supporting youth employability through practical learning experiences and industry exposure - helping the students build the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed, while encouraging responsible, future-focused thinking that will matter in every industry. The increasing participation year on year is extremely encouraging.”
The programme comes against the backdrop of a growing employability challenge in India. With approximately 5 million graduates entering the workforce annually and only about 2.8 million securing employment, initiatives such as the India Business Case Programme aim to equip youth with industry-relevant skills.
Open to undergraduate students across disciplines, the programme continues to play a role in strengthening industry-academia collaboration and preparing students for future career opportunities.
