New Delhi February 07, 2026: Godavari Biorefineries Limited has entered into a partnership with Synthomer to develop bio-based alternatives to fossil-derived monomers, responding to rising demand from customers for more sustainable raw materials in the chemicals value chain.

Under the collaboration, Godavari Biorefineries Limited will supply bio-based butanol, which Synthomer is using to commercialise bio-based butyl acrylate. The initiative is aimed at supporting the transition away from fossil-based inputs while maintaining performance standards required for industrial applications.

The partnership builds on Godavari Biorefineries’ integrated biorefinery capabilities and focus on renewable feedstocks. By substituting fossil-based monomers with bio-based alternatives, the collaboration seeks to enable lower-carbon options across downstream applications and help customers progress toward their emissions reduction goals.

Commenting on the partnership, Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said, “At Godavari Biorefineries, sustainability is integral to our business strategy and innovation agenda. This collaboration with Synthomer reflects our commitment to advancing bio-based alternatives that enable meaningful reductions in carbon footprint across the value chain.”

He added, “By leveraging renewable feedstocks and our integrated biorefinery capabilities, we aim to work with and support our partners and customers in transitioning away from fossil-based materials toward more sustainable solutions. Partnerships such as this are critical to accelerating the adoption of green chemistry and contributing to a more circular and resilient chemical industry and to our vision of creating a beautiful world.”

Chris Brown, Vice President of ESG at Synthomer, said, “Partnering with GBL enables us to offer customers a lower-carbon alternative to fossil-based monomers, helping them to meet their emissions targets while supporting the growing demand for more sustainable solutions.”

He further noted, “It also reflects our commitment to customer-centricity. By expanding access to bio-based solutions, we’re strengthening the resilience of our monomers portfolio and ensuring we can continue meeting our customers’ evolving needs.”

The collaboration highlights increasing alignment between biorefinery producers and specialty chemical companies as the sector looks to balance sustainability objectives with commercial scalability and customer requirements.
