New Delhi, March 23, 2026: GITAM (Deemed to be University) has announced scholarships worth up to ₹30 crore for 786 students under its Pathway Scholarship Programme, aimed at expanding access to higher education for students from underserved communities.

The scholarships, which offer up to 100% fee waivers including tuition, accommodation, and meals, were awarded following the GITAM Pathway Scholarship Examination. The exam saw participation from 7,795 students from government-run Tribal Welfare and Social Welfare institutions across Andhra Pradesh.

According to the university, 4,527 students appeared from 59 centres catering to Tribal Welfare institutions, while 3,268 students participated from 90 centres serving Social Welfare institutions.

The selected students will be admitted to 61 undergraduate programmes across GITAM’s campuses in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Scholarships are awarded purely on merit, based on performance in the GITAM Admission Test (GAT), and continued support is linked to academic performance.

Highlighting the vision behind the initiative, Sribharat Mathukumilli, President, GITAM, said, “India’s place in the world will depend on how widely access to quality higher education expands without any dilution in standards. Too many capable students remain outside the reach of strong institutions at the point of entry. GITAM addresses this by recognising merit early and nurturing it throughout the educational journey. Pathway reflects this direction, where financial capacity does not stand between talent and quality education.”

The Pathway programme has expanded significantly since its inception. It grew from supporting 18 students with ₹49.7 lakh in scholarships in 2024 to 59 students with ₹1.45 crore in 2025, and now to 786 students in 2026, marking a substantial increase in scale and outreach.

The initiative forms part of GITAM’s broader scholarship ecosystem. Between 2021 and 2025, the university awarded ₹115.97 crore in scholarships to 10,573 students, accounting for 26% of total admissions. In 2025 alone, ₹47.93 crore was awarded to 3,566 students.

In addition to merit-based scholarships, GITAM also offers need-based financial aid, sports scholarships, and support for families of personnel from the Indian Navy, CRPF, and Indian Air Force.

Through the Pathway programme, the university aims to create structured, merit-driven opportunities for students from government institutions, supporting their access to quality higher education.
