New Delhi, Apr 3, 2025: Genesis Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing life-saving medical care to critically ill children, has announced a significant milestone – successfully supporting 5,000 children with congenital heart defects (CHD) and other life-threatening conditions.
Founded by Jyoti and Prema Sagar, Genesis Foundation has been at the forefront of pediatric healthcare interventions, working with hospitals and medical experts across the country. The Foundation focuses on early diagnosis, timely intervention, and post-operative care to improve survival rates and enhance the quality of life for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Reflecting on this achievement, Jyoti Sagar, Founder and Trustee at Genesis Foundation, said, "Reaching this milestone fills us with immense gratitude towards our donors, partner hospitals, volunteers, and the entire Genesis Foundation family. Each of these 5,000 children represents a family that has been given hope and a second chance at life. Many of these families faced the heartbreaking reality of not being able to afford crucial treatment. This milestone is a testament to the strong relationships we have built with our partners who believe in our cause and have been instrumental in saving young lives."
Genesis Foundation’s work is best exemplified through the lives it has transformed. Two heartwarming stories highlight the impact of timely medical intervention.
Baby Aarav’s (name changed) Journey to Health
Born with a severe congenital heart defect, Baby Aarav from Bihar required urgent open-heart surgery. His parents, daily wage earners, faced the impossible choice between seeking treatment and survival. Genesis Foundation stepped in, covering the cost of the surgery at a partner hospital. Today, Aarav is a thriving three-year-old, leading a normal, active life.
Sneha’s (name changed) Second Chance
Sneha, an eight-year-old from Madhya Pradesh, was diagnosed with a complex heart condition. Due to financial constraints, her family had lost hope. With the Foundation’s intervention, she underwent a successful corrective procedure. Now, she attends school regularly and dreams of becoming a doctor to help children like her.
Genesis Foundation’s partnerships with hospitals like Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (Kochi) have enabled innovative approaches to treatment. One notable success involved an 11-year-old girl with a complex heart condition who underwent surgery using a 3D-printed heart model to guide the procedure — a breakthrough in surgical precision and planning.
Genesis Foundation continues to expand its fundraising efforts, with more than 70% of its funding derived from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships. Moving forward, the Foundation aims to increase awareness about CHD among underprivileged families to promote early diagnosis and intervention. The children supported by the foundation belong to families with an income of less than or equal to Rs 20,000 per month, whose parents are unable to afford treatment for their children.
