New Delhi, September 16, 2023: Fujitsu, a Japanese technology company that specializes in consumer and industrial electronics, has announced its successful visualization of CO2 emissions throughout its supply chain, achieved through participation in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT) Implementation program. This initiative marks the world's first social program enabling business-to-business data integration for product carbon footprint (PCF) information. For its initial implementation, Fujitsu utilized its Track and Trust technology, a PACT-compliant solution based on the Pathfinder Network, to calculate CO2 emissions in PCF across its notebook PC supply chain. This endeavor also addressed supply chain issues and explored improvements in supplier engagement and ecosystem building through PCF data exchange using actual supplier data.
Moving forward, Fujitsu plans to leverage insights gained from this project to contribute to the standardization of methodologies and best practices for business-to-business data linkage in the supply chain. This collaboration will involve industry associations such as the WBCSD and other key stakeholders. The aim is to address global environmental challenges, aligning with the Fujitsu Group's approach to Materiality. In addition to this project, Fujitsu will offer its expertise in data linkage and methodology standardization as part of its ESG management platform services and digital supply chain services within the Fujitsu Uvance portfolio. As a Lead Company and PACT conformant solution provider, Fujitsu will report on the implementation's progress and challenges at the Scope 3 Summit - From uncertainty to imPACT scheduled for September 19, 2023 (U.S. time). Fujitsu will also share its field trials and PoCs in Japan and participate in discussions on future initiatives as the deputy leader of the Visualization Working Group within the Green×Digital Consortium powered by JEITA.
Anna Stanley-Radière, Director, Climate Transparency, World Business Council for Sustainable Development commented, “We are delighted Fujitsu has participated in the PACT Implementation Program as one of the Lead Companies and Solution Providers and have been impressed by their dedication and progress in creating transparency on supply chain emissions. We are grateful for their continued leadership, cooperation and support and look forward to working together closely to further scale our efforts globally.”
The global challenge of achieving carbon neutrality necessitates the reduction of CO2 emissions across entire supply chains. To address this, companies must calculate standardized PCFs for their product suppliers and coordinate PCF data in a common format. The standardization of this process across industries has been a long-standing issue. The WBCSD launched PACT in 2021 to encourage global initiatives, companies, and solution providers to address PCF calculation and data integration methods.
Implementation Outline:
- Target product: Fujitsu's Notebook PC
- Supplier levels: Upstream suppliers in Fujitsu's notebook PC supply chain (Tiers 1, 2, 3)
- Data integration items: PCF data based on the Pathfinder Framework
- Solutions: Fujitsu Track and Trust, and Zeroboard, PACT-compliant solutions based on the Pathfinder Network
Fujitsu will continue to participate in PACT, developing rules, solutions, and supplier engagement for real data linkage through the Pathfinder Network. Additionally, Fujitsu plans to provide digital supply chain services compliant with regulations, such as the EU Battery Regulation and the EU CSR Directive, starting in the second half of fiscal 2023. This service will aim to integrate fragmented data across processes, optimizing the entire supply chain and contributing to global carbon neutrality.
