Satara (Maharashtra), Nov 30, 2024: Dana India has launched several initiatives in Maharashtra's Satara, focussing on water management, agricultural productivity, and environmental sustainability.
Among the key initiatives this year was the rejuvenation of a pond and the repair of leakages in Degaon village. This effort increased water storage capacity to 7.5 million litres through de-siltation, ensuring clean water access for nearly 5,000 villagers and 1,000 cattle.
Dana India also introduced a Contour Canal Irrigation system in Chalkewadi village. This initiative enabled year-round irrigation for 90 hectares of farmland, directly benefiting approximately 1,000 villagers and 500 cattle. By reducing soil erosion and contamination, the project also improved access to safe drinking water for livestock.
Commenting on the impact of these initiatives, Gajanan Gandhe, Country Head and Vice President of Dana India, said, “At Dana India, we are committed to addressing the challenges faced by rural communities and their livestock. Our initiatives focus on optimizing water resources and implementing sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of droughts and irregular rainfall. By supporting agriculture and reducing soil erosion, we aim to create a lasting positive impact while ensuring access to safe water for both villagers and their cattle.”
