Caring for the Caregivers Team Health & Wellness Camp by Safe Society

csr

At Safe Society, our work has always begun with people—children, youth, families, and communities navigating vulnerability. But behind every intervention, every late-night call, every crisis response, there is a caregiver quietly carrying the weight of others.

This February, we chose to pause—and look inward.

On 7th February 2026, Safe Society organised a Team Health & Wellness Camp at Regency Healthcare, Gorakhpur, for its team members and their families. The camp focused on preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, mental well-being, and holistic support, reaffirming a belief we hold deeply: sustainable social impact is impossible without caring for the people who deliver it.

Why Care for Caregivers?

In the social sector, our teams walk alongside the most vulnerable—holding hands, offering strength, absorbing pain, and staying present through uncertainty. Field staff and senior practitioners alike shoulder immense emotional, physical, and psychological responsibility. Yet their own needs often remain invisible.

Much like a mother who prioritises her child’s well-being while quietly neglecting her own health, social sector professionals frequently postpone care for themselves.

“हम रोज़ दूसरों के लिए खड़े रहते हैं, लेकिन अपने लिए रुकना भूल जाते हैं।”

Burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma are not exceptions in our sector—they are realities. This camp was designed as a response to that truth.

A First Step into Dignified Care

For many members of the Safe Society team—especially our ground staff from Maharajganj and Siddharthnagar districts, who come from historically marginalised and economically weaker backgrounds—this camp marked something deeply personal.

For some, it was the first time they had ever visited a hospital for themselves.

Not in crisis.
Not for survival.
But for care.

Team members arrived with hesitation, curiosity, and quiet hope. By the end of the day, what remained was relief, gratitude, and something rare—being seen.

पहली बार लगा कि यह जगह सिर्फ़ मरीज़ों के लिए नहीं, हम जैसे लोगों के लिए भी है।

Care That Included Families

Understanding that well-being is deeply interconnected with family support systems, Safe Society encouraged team members to bring their loved ones.

Working mothers arrived with their children.
Some team members came with parents or spouses.
Laughter filled waiting areas once reserved for silence.

The hospital corridors felt less clinical—and more like a shared space of trust.

This inclusion sent a powerful message: our people are not just employees—they are human beings with families, responsibilities, and stories.

A Partnership Rooted in Empathy

We extend our deepest gratitude to Regency Healthcare, Gorakhpur, for partnering with us under their CSR initiative. From well-equipped facilities to compassionate medical staff, every interaction reflected warmth, dignity, and respect.

The experience was not transactional—it was relational.

Equally, we are profoundly grateful to the Global Fund for Children (GFC) for recognising the invisible labour of caregivers and intentionally centring their well-being. GFC’s support reflects a progressive understanding that strong organisations are built by healthy, supported teams.

Beyond a One-Day Camp: A Vision for Systemic Care

This initiative is not a one-time event. It is part of a larger commitment by Safe Society to institutionalise care for caregivers, including:

  • Dedicated safe spaces rooted in trust and belonging
  • Continuous focus on mental health and emotional resilience
  • Regular SALT conversations—structured, reflective dialogues that help teams listen, heal, and support one another with empathy and accountability

“Hum yeh maante hain ki care symbolic nahi, systemic honi chahiye.”

An Invitation to the Sector

We warmly invite CSR partners, foundations, and sector allies to join hands with Safe Society and Global Fund for Children in strengthening caregiver-centric practices across the social sector.

Together, we can co-create models where compassion is not only extended outward—but also nurtured within.

Because when caregivers are cared for, impact becomes deeper, ethical, and truly sustainable.
