Launch of the Technologies for Net-Zero Airports: A Blueprint for Sustainable Aviation Infrastructure

New Delhi, February 05, 2026: The Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) concluded the sixth edition of its annual flagship conclave, the Forum on Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation (FEED 2026), positioning energy efficiency as a central driver of India’s Viksit Bharat vision. The two-day conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society representatives to advance practical pathways for efficiency-led growth and decarbonisation.

FEED 2026 convened more than 370 stakeholders and featured insights from over 80 experts, with participation from more than 400 organisations across the public and private sectors. The discussions reflected AEEE’s triple-sector leadership model, integrating government policy direction, private sector innovation, and civil society expertise to strengthen implementation on the ground.

The conclave focused on bridging the gap between policy intent and execution. Dr Satish Kumar, President and Executive Director of AEEE, said, “AEEE’s mission is to forge a practical bridge for industries, leveraging data and technology to demonstrate that energy efficiency is a direct pathway to profitability rather than a mere compliance or conceptual goal. This commitment is further strengthened by the strategic tailwinds from the Union Budget 2026, which introduced pivotal schemes to enhance systemic efficiency and energy productivity.”

Participants noted that recent fiscal measures are expected to support the scaling of energy efficiency interventions across sectors such as cold chains, transport, buildings, infrastructure, MSMEs, the national grid, cooling, and hard-to-abate industries, embedding energy productivity more deeply across the economy.

A key highlight of FEED 2026 was the release of the compendium “Technologies for Net-Zero Airports: India’s Blueprint for Sustainable Aviation Infrastructure.” The report outlines a phased roadmap to support India’s aviation sector in transitioning towards low-carbon and climate-resilient operations. It focuses on airside, terminal, and landside operations, and examines technologies including sustainable aviation fuel, automated baggage handling, and radiant cooling. Drawing on global and domestic case studies, the compendium demonstrates how targeted energy efficiency investments can deliver operational, financial, and environmental benefits.

The forum also featured insights from a collaborative study with Kazam titled “Residential EV Charging in India: A Systems Perspective.” The study highlighted that residential charging accounts for 70–80% of daily electric vehicle energy demand and offers significant cost advantages over public charging. It examined regulatory and infrastructure challenges in housing societies and outlined policy and technology measures needed to strengthen home charging infrastructure, improve fleet efficiency, and support last-mile electrification.

FEED 2026 concluded with a shared view that energy efficiency represents a critical “first fuel” for India’s transition to an energy-secure and climate-resilient future. Participants underscored that coordinated action across sectors will be essential to ensure that India’s economic growth aligns with long-term sustainability and net-zero ambitions.
