Zomato Introduces ‘Low Plastic Packaging’ Filter to Promote Sustainable Food Delivery Choices

New Delhi, December 17, 2025: Zomato has launched a new ‘Low Plastic Packaging’ filter on its app, aimed at helping users identify restaurants that use sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging while ordering food online.

The feature is available under the ‘Trust Markers’ category on the Zomato app and allows users to discover restaurants that are part of Zomato’s Plastic-Free Future Program. These restaurants primarily use non-plastic materials such as paper, bagasse, glass, and aluminium for packaging their main menu items. Restaurants using such practices are also tagged with a ‘Low plastic packaging’ label on menu pages and in order summaries, enabling greater transparency for users at the point of purchase.

Launched in December 2024, Zomato’s Plastic-Free Future Program has expanded to include around 10,000 restaurants from over 290 brands across more than 490 cities. The introduction of the filter is expected to increase visibility for participating restaurants and encourage wider adoption of sustainable packaging alternatives across the platform.

Commenting on the launch, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “Consumers today appreciate the option of making more sustainable choices while ordering from restaurants online. As more alternatives to plastic packaging emerge, we’ve seen environmentally-conscious restaurant brands embrace these options faster than others and join our Plastic-Free Future Program. We’re introducing the ‘low plastic packaging filter’ to make it easier for users, like you and me, to discover these restaurants and motivate more restaurants to join the movement. We've already facilitated 80 million orders from Plastic-Free-Future Program restaurants, and we hope that users will use the filter and contribute to a greener future!”

In addition to the new filter, Zomato continues to run a voluntary plastic waste recycling initiative focused on achieving 100% plastic-neutral deliveries. Under this initiative, the company recycles plastic waste equivalent to the amount used by restaurants for food delivery packaging. Since FY23, Zomato has recycled approximately 45,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste.
