Bangalore, March 29, 2025: Karnataka Minister for Higher Education Dr. M.C. Sudhakar expressed his commitment to explore allocating approximately 100 acres of additional land to Bengaluru-based NGO, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The announcement was made during the SCB-Higher Education Impact Conclave, organized by Samarthanam in collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank.
During the conclave, Minister Sudhakar received a white paper outlining the Trust’s significant achievements and future plans. Highlighting the impactful work carried out by Samarthanam, the minister noted that the current infrastructure might not adequately support the growing requirements of students with disabilities.
Samarthanam Trust, through its Promoting Higher Education for Students with Disabilities in India initiative, has already empowered approximately 3,500 students across 725 colleges and 95 universities in 10 states. Among these, over 100 students are pursuing professional courses, including PhDs, MBBS, MBA, BE, and B Tech programs.
Founder and Managing Trustee Mahantesh G.K. underscored the successful employment outcomes of the initiative, highlighting that 50 students have secured jobs in both government and private sectors, with salaries ranging from Rs 12,000 to Rs 80,000 per month.
Dr. Sudhakar praised Samarthanam’s accomplishments and emphasized the importance of inclusive education and accessible infrastructure. The proposed 100-acre land allocation aims to establish an inclusive global university and state-of-the-art sports facilities specifically designed for persons with disabilities.
The minister’s support marks a significant step towards realizing the vision of an inclusive educational hub, reinforcing Karnataka’s commitment to equitable education and opportunities for students with disabilities.
