Udaipur, August 14, 2026: Hindustan Zinc Limited has highlighted its initiatives to support women’s economic participation, spanning livelihood development in rural Rajasthan and greater representation of women in technology-intensive roles across its mining and manufacturing operations.
Through its Sakhi initiative, the company has connected more than 25,000 rural women through Self-Help Groups, providing access to savings, credit, entrepreneurial training and livelihood opportunities.
One beneficiary, Farzana, a production associate with Sakhi Utpadan Samiti, moved from informal domestic work to earning approximately ₹3.47 lakh annually through textile and FMCG production. During the COVID-19 lockdown, her unit also adapted its operations to manufacture cloth masks.
Hindustan Zinc is also supporting women engaged in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods through its Samadhan initiative, which provides technical and market support. Prem Bai Vyas of Matoon village, for instance, expanded her dairy enterprise from around 10 litres of milk a day to approximately 85 litres. She now earns more than ₹90,000 per month and independently manages a 20-cattle unit, with payments made directly into her bank account.

The company said women currently account for 26.3% of its workforce, which it identifies as the highest representation among India’s metals and mining sector. Employees below the age of 35 account for 62% of the workforce.
Women employees are involved in underground mining, heavy equipment operations, mine rescue activities and technology-led functions covering artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation and digitalisation.
Under Tejaswini, all-women teams are managing operations across shifts in the Leaching & Purification section at the Chanderiya Smelting Complex.
At Zinc Smelter Debari, Swapnil Thori, Lead – Digitalisation and an IIT Delhi graduate, is working on AI- and machine learning-led transformation across smelters and power plants. Her work includes consumable optimisation, predictive maintenance and process integration.
The initiatives form part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader focus on education, skilling, healthcare, community development and economic participation, with the company positioning women’s livelihoods and workforce participation as complementary parts of its inclusion strategy.
