Malabar Group Announces Scholarships for Over 3,900 Girl Students in Telangana

Hyderabad, February 3, 2025: Malabar Group, the parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has announced educational scholarships for girl students in Telangana for the 2024–2025 academic year. The announcement was made during an event at The Telangana State IAS Officers Institute in Somajiguda, Hyderabad, and is part of the Malabar Scholarship Programme, the Group’s flagship CSR initiative focused on supporting girls' education.

The event was inaugurated by Smt. D Anasuya Seethakka Garu, Minister for Panchayat Raj & Rural Development (including Rural Water Supply), Women & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana. Senior leaders from Malabar Group, including Mr. Asher O, MD - India Operations, and other key officials, were present along with students and other attendees.

For the current academic year, Malabar Group has allocated ₹16 crore to support the education of over 21,000 girl students across India. In Telangana, ₹3.14 crore has been earmarked to assist more than 3,900 students across 116 colleges.

Scholarship Programme and CSR Initiatives

Commenting on the initiative, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, said, “Education is the most powerful tool to change the world. Our scholarship programme is a direct reflection of Malabar Group’s deep-rooted belief that education unlocks opportunities and transforms lives. We are committed to removing barriers for young girls so they can fulfil their educational aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Since 1999, Malabar Group has directed 5% of its profits towards CSR activities, focusing on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and poverty alleviation. The Malabar National Scholarship Programme, launched in 2007, has contributed over ₹60 crore, benefiting more than 95,000 girl students across India, including over ₹13.74 crore for 22,400 students in Telangana.

Beyond scholarships, Malabar Group runs initiatives such as the Hunger-Free World Project, which provides over 60,000 food packets daily in 81 cities across 17 Indian states and 10,000 meals per day for school students in Zambia. The initiative, in collaboration with Thanal, aims to expand its reach to 100,000 people daily at 200 centres.

The Group also supports marginalized communities through projects such as the Grandma Home initiative, offering shelter to destitute women, and 581 micro-learning centres across 12 states, which have helped over 25,800 dropout students continue their education. Additional CSR efforts include medical aid, housing support, and financial assistance for women’s marriages, with a total investment of over ₹282.29 crore in social responsibility initiatives.
