Cassio Simoes, MD, Tetra Pak South Asia, inaugurates an eco-conscious classroom at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram, Bangalore
Bangalore, February 6, 2025: PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram, in collaboration with Tetra Pak, has introduced a model eco-friendly classroom, showcasing the use of recycled materials in educational spaces.
As part of the initiative, the school has refurbished a classroom with 25 sets of desks, cupboards, blackboards, and other essential furniture, all made from recycled beverage cartons. The project aims to integrate sustainable practices into education while promoting environmental responsibility.
Shri Anil Kumar, Principal of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: “This partnership with Tetra Pak has positioned our school as a model for environmental consciousness. The overwhelmingly positive response, including interest from other Kendriya Vidyalayas, underscores the importance of integrating sustainability into learning spaces. This initiative is more than just a classroom transformation—it’s shaping responsible, environmentally conscious citizens of tomorrow.”

Cassio Simoes, Managing Director of Tetra Pak South Asia, emphasized the broader impact: “At Tetra Pak, we believe that true environmental sustainability is about creating a tangible, lasting impact on communities and future generations. This initiative is an example of our commitment to advancing environmental responsibility while empowering young minds. We had committed to donate 1000 recycled products to the community in a year, and we are delighted that PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Malleswaram is one of them.”
The project was implemented with support from the Action Alliance for Recycling Beverage Cartons (AARC), an industry group promoting carton recycling, and RUR Greenlife, a Mumbai-based social enterprise focused on environmental education. To mark the occasion, RUR Greenlife conducted a two-hour workshop on sustainability and carton recycling for students.
Tetra Pak has been working on strengthening recycling ecosystems for over 20 years, collaborating with urban local governments, NGOs, businesses, and consumers. Used beverage cartons are collected and recycled into materials such as paper, waterproof poly-aluminium, and panel boards, which are then repurposed into furniture, roofing sheets, notebooks, and vehicle seats. Tetra Pak’s collection network spans 26 states and union territories, supported by 30 collection partners, 15 Indian Army contingents, and 8 recycling facilities across India.
