New Delhi, January 29, 2024: Ambuja Cements, a part of the Adani Group, has successfully implemented a waste management initiative in Vadnagar village, Gujarat. This initiative is part of the Lighthouse Initiative (LHI), a collaborative project by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, involving public and private sectors.

Vadnagar, in the Gir Somnath district, is the first village to implement the LHI project, which aims to roll out across 75 Gram Panchayats in 15 states during its initial phase.

Under Phase II of the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G), Ambuja Cements supported Vadnagar Gram Panchayat in plastic waste management. The company facilitated house-to-house waste collection and segregation, resulting in 2,500 kg of plastic waste sent to Ambuja Cements for proper disposal.

The Vadnagar community actively participated in educational programs on Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) and Plastic Waste Management (PWM), contributing to better waste segregation practices. Ambuja Cements provided broader support, including infrastructure development and corporate CSR involvement, focusing on behaviour change communication, community development, and awareness activities.
