New Delhi, Oct 14, 2024: As part of its efforts to foster a green mindset among students and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in a sustainable economy, OPPO India has launched the Generation Green initiative in collaboration with the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to create nationwide electronic-waste awareness among youths.

Aligning with the Phase 1 of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment), which focuses on encouraging simple yet impactful environmental actions in daily life, OPPO India offered 5,000 internship opportunities across India colleges, with the aim of building green skills.

This September, OPPO India kicked off the second leg of the ‘Generation Green’ campaign with a nationwide electronic-waste awareness drive (e-waste). Through collaborations with leading colleges across the country, the second leg aims to educate youth about the increasing challenge of electronic waste management, such as discarded wires, mobile phones, chargers, batteries, and the need for effective disposal for a sustainable future.

So far, Delhi’s Ramjas College, Amity University in Ranchi, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai and Silver Oak University in Ahmedabad have received the title of 'Eco-Conscious Champion Institute' under the programme, with more educational institutes to follow.

Within just a month, over 4 lakh students from schools and colleges committed to reducing energy use and managing e-waste responsibly, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle. The programme’s goal is to reach at least 10 lakh students in India by the end of 2024.

OPPO India has initiated several other initiatives to build a green and low-carbon business operation model, and to create an environment-friendly value chain.

As part of these efforts, OPPO focuses on the "3R+1D" (reduce, reuse, recycle and degradable) concept of green packaging which involves reducing the amount of packaging, making it easier to recycle and ensuring it is more biodegradable. Petroleum-based ink used in package printing has been replaced with soy ink supporting environmental sustainability. Compared to traditional petroleum-based ink, soy-based ink makes it easier to recycle paper. OPPO India promotes the reduction, recyclability, and degradability of packaging.
