Viatris Launches Drug-Resistant TB Support Project in Maharashtra

Hyderabad, July 22, 2026: Mylan Laboratories Limited, a part of global healthcare company Viatris, has launched a new tuberculosis (TB) support project in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with a focus on improving the detection, prevention and management of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB).

The 18-month initiative is being implemented in partnership with Doctors For You, Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the City TB Office, Nagpur under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The project aligns with the Government of India's National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) and follows its Detect-Treat-Prevent-Build approach.

The programme aims to strengthen molecular diagnostic capacity, increase TB preventive treatment among household contacts and provide nutritional support for TB and DR-TB patients. Planned interventions include processing more than 26,000 diagnostic samples across four locations in Nagpur district, conducting household tracing for confirmed TB and DR-TB patients covering 22,000 households, and distributing over 450 nutrition kits.

The initiative builds on Viatris' ongoing efforts to support tuberculosis control in India. Since 2020, the company has supported TB screening programmes and healthcare initiatives in Maharashtra, including rural and tribal areas of Gadchiroli district.

Speaking about the initiative, Lina Andersson, Head of Global Sustainability, Viatris, said, “Since 2020, we’ve screened more than 1.5 million people for TB in India. Over the past five years, Viatris supported the TB Control Initiative, reaching more than 58,000 people in rural and tribal areas of Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra. We will continue to explore ways to support regional and national health priorities and look forward to continued collaboration for the health and well-being of people in Maharashtra.”

Dr Abhijit Deshmukh, Head of Global Non-Sterile Operations, Viatris, said, “As a company with a long-standing presence in Maharashtra, we are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the communities where our colleagues live and work. Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen local efforts to improve TB detection, prevention and patient support, contributing to the broader goal of eliminating tuberculosis in India.”

According to Viatris, the company has helped enable treatment access for more than 300,000 patients living with drug-resistant TB globally, reinforcing its commitment to supporting national efforts to eliminate tuberculosis.
