Mumbai, May 15, 2026: VFS Global Foundation has opened its first skills training centre in Mumbai and the sixth in India, aimed at providing vocational training to youth from underserved communities for careers in retail, travel and tourism.

The new centre will offer a one-month Certificate Programme for Retail Associates. According to the organisation, the programme has been designed by VFS Global Academy, which is serving as the knowledge partner for the initiative.

The first batch includes 30 students who have already enrolled in the programme. The training will focus on practical industry skills, career guidance and employability support to help students transition into the workforce.

The initiative is intended to strengthen employment opportunities for young people while supporting long-term socio-economic progress for their families. Mumbai was selected for the centre due to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the retail sector.

Students will be trained by industry practitioners and receive sector-specific exposure aimed at improving placement opportunities after course completion.

The centre was inaugurated by Nirbhik Goel, Chief Human Resources Officer, VFS Global; Gayathri Vasudevan; and Saugata Roy Chaudhury, along with senior officials from the academy.

Mr. Nirbhik Goel, Chief Human Resources Officer, VFS Global said, “Skill development is central to VFS Global Foundation’s mission. Our new Mumbai centre offers underserved communities practical retail training that leads to employment and long-term family progress. With VFS Global Academy as our knowledge partner, we ensure programmes are future-ready, industry-aligned, and supportive of the Government of India’s Skill India initiative.”

According to the organisation, VFS Global Academy has trained more than 2,800 students in recent years through academy programmes, university-integrated courses, corporate training and CSR initiatives.

The foundation said the initiative is part of its broader effort to support youth skilling and strengthen the talent pipeline for the retail, travel and tourism sectors.
