New Delhi, September 04, 2025: Vedanta Limited has announced a commitment of ₹30 crore over three years under The Animal Care Organisation (TACO) to strengthen wildlife conservation efforts across India. The announcement was made on National Wildlife Day, highlighting the company’s focus on biodiversity and ecological protection.
The initiative covers projects ranging from tiger reserves in Rajasthan to elephant and rhino habitats in Assam. TACO is working on enhancing conservation corridors, deploying technology for monitoring, and supporting long-term ecological stewardship.
As part of its ‘Mission Vanraksha,’ TACO has set up solar-powered anti-poaching camps and deployed surveillance vehicles at Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. In Kaziranga National Park, the organisation is building a surveillance centre and staff quarters to strengthen protection for rhinos, elephants, and tigers.
Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Limited and Anchor of TACO, said: “What we preserve today shapes the strength and spirit of tomorrow’s India. On this National Wildlife Day, we stand firm in our stewardship, nurturing the wild, honouring its intrinsic worth, and ensuring forests, wildlife, and communities flourish together in harmony.”
Vedanta’s conservation portfolio also includes projects across Rajasthan, Goa, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta subsidiary, has worked with the Forest Department to rejuvenate nearly 400 hectares at Baghdarrah Crocodile Conservation Reserve in Udaipur. Cairn Oil & Gas is conserving 86 acres of mangroves in Andhra Pradesh, which provide habitats for bird species, Smooth-Coated Otters, and fishing cats. In Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh, Vedanta Aluminium has created parks for butterflies and migratory birds. Sesa Goa has rejuvenated 203 hectares at Sanquelim Mines in Goa, planting over 750,000 trees that sequester nearly 16,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Across all its businesses, Vedanta has planted more than three million trees since FY21 and aims to plant seven million by 2030, aligned with the World Economic Forum’s Trillion Tree initiative. These efforts are accompanied by awareness programs such as nature walks and school engagement activities.
The company said that its integrated approach — covering species protection, afforestation, community engagement, and data-driven monitoring — positions it as a private-sector partner in India’s biodiversity and climate commitments.
