Mumbai, August 18, 2025: UltraTech Cement Limited, India’s largest cement and ready-mix concrete company, has operationalised a 7.5 MW round-the-clock (RTC) hybrid renewable energy project at its integrated cement manufacturing unit, Sewagram Cement Works, in Gujarat.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with clean energy solutions company Gentari, combines solar energy using bifacial modules with trackers, wind energy, and battery storage. Installed as a behind-the-meter system, the project is designed to deliver uninterrupted clean energy directly to the plant, without reliance on grid power.

UltraTech said the project is the first-of-its-kind in India for industrial power consumption, representing an advanced example of system integration for energy cost optimisation and emissions reduction.

The company noted that the RTC hybrid project has been executed with the objective of providing uninterrupted clean energy for its manufacturing operations. It marks a significant step in UltraTech’s sustainability journey and contributes to its broader decarbonisation strategy.

UltraTech has been steadily expanding its renewable energy portfolio. In FY25, it became one of the first companies in India’s industrial sector to commission 1 GW of renewable energy capacity for captive use. Looking ahead, the company aims to increase the share of green energy in its total power mix to 65% by 2027 and 85% by 2030. As part of its RE100 commitment, UltraTech has set a target to meet 100% of its electricity requirements through renewable sources by 2050.

UltraTech Cement Limited, the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is the third-largest cement producer in the world outside of China, with a grey cement capacity of 192.26 MTPA. The company is a signatory to the GCCA Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the Net Zero Concrete Roadmap announced by the GCCA.
