New Delhi, September 19, 2025: Titan Company Limited, under its Planet CSR initiative and in partnership with the National Agro Foundation, has rejuvenated the 157-hectare Gunduperumbedu Lake in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, restoring a water body that had remained neglected for nearly 15 years.
The project involved removing 1.05 lakh cubic metres of silt, strengthening bunds, building a 435-metre toe wall, renovating sluice gates and weirs, and constructing a new RCC passway bridge. These interventions have increased the lake’s holding capacity by 26 crore litres, enabling 3–5 additional months of farming annually, raising the water table by almost 10 metres, and expanding cultivation by 20%. The initiative is expected to directly impact around 3,000 residents and benefit over 27,000 people in surrounding villages, with nearly 1.2 lakh benefitting indirectly through groundwater recharge and flood mitigation.
This is Titan’s second major intervention in Tamil Nadu this year. Earlier in 2025, the company inaugurated the Masaorambhu Stream Restoration Project in Coimbatore, aimed at reviving the stream with seven check dams and replenishing about 10 crore litres of water.
“At Titan, we believe that water rejuvenation is not just about restoring natural resources, but about restoring hope and opportunity. The revival of Gunduperumbedu Lake, much like our earlier work on the Masaorambhu Stream, goes beyond water conservation—it is about empowering villages, securing livelihoods, strengthening resilience, and enabling thriving communities. These projects reaffirm our Planet CSR vision — to create lasting change by placing people and the environment at the heart of progress,” said Ms. Revathi Kant, Chief Design Officer and Executive Vice President, Titan Company Limited.
The revived lake was officially handed over to the Gunduperumbedu Lake committee on September 18 in the presence of company officials and district authorities.
