Ltd., through its Gyproc business, has commissioned India’s first Near-Net Zero Gypsum Ceiling Tiles plant in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step toward sustainable construction manufacturing in the country. The facility aims to support the growing demand for high-performance ceiling solutions while advancing low-carbon manufacturing practices.
The state-of-the-art facility, commissioned in December 2025, has an annual production capacity of 5 million square metres and will manufacture Gyprex® PVC Laminated Gypsum Ceiling Tiles. The plant’s strategic location in Visakhapatnam will help improve market access, ensure consistent product quality and strengthen supply capabilities for commercial and institutional construction segments.
Speaking on the development, Sudeep Kolte, Managing Director, Saint-Gobain Gyproc India, said, “This investment strengthens our manufacturing footprint in India and enables us to scale low-carbon ceiling solutions closer to key markets. The Vizag plant reflects our long-term strategy of integrating sustainable manufacturing with operational excellence to meet the evolving needs of commercial and institutional segments, while building resilient and future-ready manufacturing capabilities in India.”
The new facility incorporates advanced manufacturing technologies and environmental management systems. It is equipped with a modern dust collection system, reinforcing the company’s focus on operational efficiency, workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
Products manufactured at the plant comply with BS EN 520 and BS EN 14190 standards, ensuring durability, quality and performance for commercial and institutional building applications.
The project aligns with Saint-Gobain’s global sustainability roadmap, which targets achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. By adopting near-net zero manufacturing practices, the company aims to reduce environmental impact while strengthening its role in promoting sustainable construction solutions.
With this investment, Saint-Gobain India continues to expand its local manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India initiative while supporting the construction sector’s shift toward energy-efficient and environmentally responsible building materials.
The Visakhapatnam facility is expected to play a key role in meeting the increasing demand for sustainable interior building solutions across India’s commercial, institutional and infrastructure projects.
