Mumbai, December 15, 2025: PwC India and the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) have announced a collaboration aimed at strengthening global efforts to conserve the world’s seven big cat species—tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, puma and jaguar. Over the next year, the two organisations will work together to support conservation strategy development, community empowerment, awareness building and field-level programmes.
The collaboration will focus on encouraging greater private sector participation in conservation through public–private partnerships (PPPs). By engaging corporates, the initiative seeks to mobilise resources, expertise and long-term support for big cat habitats and communities that coexist with these species.
As part of the partnership, PwC India and IBCA will jointly organise three major conservation-focused platforms over a 12-month period, including an international convening, a national-level workshop and a thematic webinar on landscape restoration and habitat conservation. These events are expected to bring together scientists, policymakers, conservation organisations, community representatives and corporate stakeholders to share insights, align priorities and accelerate coordinated action and funding.
The collaboration also includes the development of a joint thought-leadership publication that will translate scientific research, field experiences and policy perspectives into a practical roadmap for organisations seeking to strengthen conservation models. The initiatives aim to support governments and institutions in improving habitats, reducing human–wildlife conflict, enabling sustainable financing and adapting successful conservation approaches from India to other regions where big cats are under threat.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. S. P. Yadav, Director General, IBCA, said, “Our collaboration with PwC India brings valuable expertise and a powerful platform to amplify conservation finance, community stewardship, and partnerships. Together, we can accelerate progress to safeguard big cats and their habitats — a cause that resonates far beyond conservation circles.”
Sambitosh Mohapatra, Partner and Leader – Sustainability Transformation, PwC India, said, “We are proud to join hands with IBCA in this meaningful endeavour to help co-create solutions to protect iconic big cat species that play a critical role in maintaining ecological balance. This collaboration allows us to apply our strategic and operational strengths in new ways, advancing sustainability goals that benefit both nature and communities. Such initiatives create unique business opportunities along with equitable and inclusive growth.”
By combining IBCA’s global conservation mandate with PwC India’s expertise in sustainability, strategy and financing, the partnership aims to strengthen stakeholder dialogue, enhance conservation funding and promote scalable models across regions in Africa, South America and South Asia. The collaboration reflects a growing recognition of the link between biodiversity conservation, community well-being and sustainable development.
