Gurugram, July 29, 2025: Nxtra by Airtel has announced a significant expansion of its renewable energy portfolio through a new power-wheeling agreement with AMPIN Energy Transition. The agreement covers an additional 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy via Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connected projects, bringing the total renewable capacity under the Nxtra-AMPIN partnership to over 200 MW.
The new capacity will be delivered in two phases through captive projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka. AMPIN already supplies solar power to Nxtra through intra-state access in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The expansion introduces 11 additional states and integrates new technologies, including large-scale ISTS supply and unified delivery from a single Independent Power Producer (IPP).
“Sustainability is not just a commitment—it is our responsibility and our opportunity to lead. By powering our digital infrastructure with over 200 MW of renewable energy through our partnership with AMPIN, we are setting new standards for the industry,” said Ashish Arora, CEO – Nxtra by Airtel. “This achievement highlights our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy to power our facilities sustainably, boosting reliability and ensuring tangible climate impact.”
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD and CEO, AMPIN Energy Transition, added, “With this partnership, we demonstrate that through a seamless blend of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy solutions backed by a pan-India presence, we can take any customer through a nearly 100% energy transition. Nxtra by Airtel, a leader in the data and fast-growing data centre space shares our vision for sustainability and we are proud to make data centres green by this association.”
The collaboration is expected to reduce Nxtra’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 149,156 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, supporting the company’s goal of large-scale decarbonisation. Nxtra, which joined the global RE100 initiative in June 2024, has committed to sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources, becoming the first data centre in India to do so.
Driven by its Net Zero commitment and alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Nxtra is implementing various measures to lower its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. These include refurbishment of machinery, digital process optimization, and predictive maintenance to enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance.
The partnership with AMPIN represents a scalable model for clean energy integration and reaffirms Nxtra’s leadership in sustainable digital infrastructure in India.
