mPokket Supports Rural Education Initiative Across 100 Schools in West Bengal

Bengaluru, July 30, 2026: mPokket, a digital lending platform, has announced the outcomes of "Apni Mitti Se Judi Shiksha," a rural education programme implemented in partnership with Help Us Help Them (HUHT) as part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives. The year-long programme was conducted across 100 government schools in 12 districts of West Bengal during 2025.

The initiative integrated 18 traditional rural livelihood skills, including agriculture, pottery, textile work and Kalaripayattu, into school education. According to the company, the programme reached more than 9,000 students and 800 teachers, while supporting infrastructure development, teacher training and community engagement.

As part of the programme, mPokket facilitated the installation of 356 computers, distributed 7,000 flutes, supported the construction of toilet blocks in schools, and engaged 151 community artisans to teach traditional skills. The initiative also focused on environmental awareness through waste segregation and kitchen gardens, with compost produced in schools being linked to local markets.

Commenting on the initiative, Rajani Jalan, who oversees HR and CSR at mPokket, said, "At mPokket, we believe that access to credit and access to quality education solve the same underlying problem: giving people the confidence and the tools to build their own future. This programme was never about writing a cheque and stepping back. Over the past year, we've watched teacher attendance more than double, seen toilets built that changed whether girls came to school at all, and heard from children who found their voice through music and craft, not textbooks. That's the kind of change we want our name attached to. This is just the first year. We're already planning how we deepen this partnership through 2026 and 2027."

The programme reported improvements in school participation and learning environments, including an increase in teacher attendance at training sessions, higher student attendance, wider adoption of digital learning, and expanded waste management practices. Building on these outcomes, HUHT and mPokket plan to strengthen monitoring, school leadership development and community engagement during the 2026–27 phase.
