Chandigarh, August 12, 2026: Motorola has completed the Haryana phase of its Motorola Aakashvani Programme, deploying 35 Automated Weather Stations (AWS) across villages in Kurukshetra and Yamuna Nagar to provide AI-powered, hyperlocal weather information to farming communities.
The programme, jointly implemented by Motorola Mobility, Tarq Foundation, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and ANNAM.AI, is designed to provide weather intelligence to approximately 17,000 farmers and benefit around 87,000 rural residents. Motorola formally handed over the programme’s completion certificate to the Government of Haryana in the presence of Shri Nayab Singh Saini, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana, along with representatives from Motorola and partner organisations.
The weather stations collect data on rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and atmospheric pressure. The information is analysed to generate real-time forecasts, early-warning alerts and advisories that farmers can use for decisions related to sowing, irrigation, crop protection and harvesting.
The programme also uses WhatsApp-based alerts and Panchayat-led information dissemination to share weather information with communities. Capacity-building activities have been conducted to help farmers and local stakeholders interpret and use the information.
According to a baseline assessment conducted across the project villages, 82% of farmers had experienced significant climate-related crop losses, while only 21% were using weather forecasts for farming decisions. The programme was developed to address this gap by providing village-level weather information in a timely and accessible format.
The project also generates weather datasets that can support climate-risk planning and crop insurance claim validation. Continuous monitoring, maintenance and technical support are being used to maintain the AWS infrastructure and advisory systems.

Following the completion of the Haryana programme, Motorola plans to extend Aakashvani to villages in Uttar Pradesh this year. The expansion will focus on taking AI-enabled, hyperlocal weather intelligence to additional farming communities and supporting climate-resilient agricultural decision-making.
