Mumbai, January 22, 2026: Mindspace Business Parks REIT has launched a month-long, gamified plastic collection drive across its Airoli East and Airoli West campuses in Navi Mumbai as part of the city-wide Navi Mumbai Plastic Recyclothon. The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and non-profit organisation Project Mumbai, with Mindspace REIT serving as the Sustainability Partner.
The drive aims to promote responsible plastic waste management by engaging nearly one lakh professionals working across the Mindspace business parks. Plastic collected during the campaign will be sent to authorised recyclers and upcycled into benches for municipal schools in Navi Mumbai, linking workplace participation with community benefit.
The Mindspace activation uses gamification as a behaviour-change tool, encouraging participation through interactive installations placed in common areas. These setups allow participants to deposit plastic waste in a basketball-style format, making recycling more engaging and accessible for young professionals. The launch event also featured a live performance by Dharavi Rocks, a music collective known for socially driven storytelling, using instruments made from reused plastic waste to reinforce the campaign’s sustainability message.
The initiative forms part of Mumbai Climate Week (MCW), a key programme led by Project Mumbai to advance climate action, awareness, and collaboration across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Officials from NMMC highlighted the role of such partnerships in strengthening civic engagement and promoting sustainable waste practices across the city.
Commenting on the initiative, Ramesh Nair, CEO & MD, Mindspace REIT, said, “The Plastic Recyclothon points at how sustainability becomes real only when it moves from intent to behaviour – measured, repeated, and owned by people. By bringing together our tenants and employees, we’re not just collecting plastic; we’re building a shared purpose and a culture of responsibility that extends beyond the workplace into the city we operate in. In partnership with NMMC and Project Mumbai, we are working towards one unified goal – ‘a clean and green Navi Mumbai’, driven by participation, accountability, and visible impact.”
Representatives from the municipal corporation also noted that the Plastic Recyclothon is intended to function as a long-term civic movement rather than a standalone campaign, encouraging sustained participation from citizens and institutions alike.
Over the coming weeks, the programme will be supported by awareness sessions and community-led engagement across business parks, residential welfare associations, schools, and colleges. The broader Navi Mumbai Plastic Recyclothon has already covered multiple locations across the city, engaging tens of thousands of citizens and collecting several tonnes of plastic waste. Participation from Mindspace Airoli East and West is expected to further scale the initiative and strengthen ongoing efforts toward circular waste management in the region.
