Maharashtra, August 28, 2026: Marico Limited has reported that its flagship Jalashay Programme has created a cumulative 547 crore litres of water conservation potential across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu through FY26.
The company highlighted the initiative on the occasion of World Water Week 2026, themed “Water for People and Progress”. The programme works with local communities and stakeholders to improve water availability, strengthen agricultural resilience and promote responsible management of natural resources.
Jalashay combines water conservation infrastructure with community participation and sustainable farming interventions. The programme is intended to support both environmental sustainability and rural livelihoods across its intervention areas.
Alongside its community initiatives, Marico has been implementing water stewardship measures across its manufacturing operations. The company said its approach focuses on increasing water replenishment while reducing water consumption through improved resource efficiency, treatment systems and responsible manufacturing practices.
As of FY26, 25% of Marico’s manufacturing footprint in water-stressed zones has been certified as water neutral. Its manufacturing facility at Perundurai, Tamil Nadu, located in an extremely high water-risk region, has achieved independently verified Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) status. Marico’s Puducherry facility has also been certified as a ZLD unit.
The company reported a 24% reduction in water consumption intensity in FY26 compared with its FY22 baseline.

Focus on Rural Water Security
In Jalgaon, Maharashtra, one of the programme’s key intervention areas, Jalashay has created 70 crore litres of water potential, benefiting more than 4,000 farmers across seven villages. The intervention has also been recognised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the Taluka Agriculture Office for its contribution to water conservation and community development.
Water stewardship forms part of Marico’s wider sustainability agenda and ESG 2030 roadmap. The company aims to achieve water neutrality certification across all its manufacturing units located in water-stressed zones.
The Jalashay initiative has also received the Mahatma Award for Water Management for its contribution to improving water availability and supporting sustainable outcomes for farming communities.
