Mamadapur Lake Community Infrastructure Upgraded in Vijayapura

Karnataka, August 12, 2026: Shri Dr. M. B. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, has dedicated upgraded community infrastructure at Mamadapur Lake in Babaleshwar taluk of Vijayapura district.

The initiative was undertaken in partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) under its Project SHINE community partnership programme, with S M Sehgal Foundation as the implementation partner. The handover was attended by local government officials, Gram Panchayat representatives, community leaders, members of the Tank User Group (TUG) and HCCB representatives.

Mamadapur Lake, which dates back to the 16th century during the reign of the Adil Shahi Sultans, is among Karnataka’s older living heritage water bodies. The lake has historically supported local communities and agriculture and remains an important shared water resource.

The project has focused on improving public infrastructure, safety and accessibility around the lake. Works include a public park, walking pathways, high-mast solar lighting, designated access points and community seating areas. Native saplings have also been planted with drip irrigation to increase green cover around the water body.

The initiative also included awareness and capacity-building activities for members of the Tank User Group, with the aim of encouraging community participation in maintaining the lake and its associated infrastructure.

Commenting on the initiative, Shri Dr. M. B. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce & Industries and Infrastructure, Government of Karnataka (GoK), said, “Karnataka remains committed to strengthening water resilience through the protection of local water bodies and community-led stewardship. Infrastructure that supports water conservation and public use plays an important role in improving local environments while contributing to the long-term protection of tanks and shared community assets. The work carried out around historic water bodies such as Mamadapur Lake reflects a balanced and practical approach, strengthening embankments, and improving public. Initiatives of this nature underline the importance of effective public-private partnerships, where responsible corporate organisations such as Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages work alongside communities to create durable infrastructure that can be owned locally, used responsibly, and maintained over time.”

HCCB operates two manufacturing plants in Karnataka, including its facility at Bidadi in Ramanagara district. Through Project SHINE, the company works with government institutions and implementation partners on initiatives covering water stewardship, community infrastructure, environmental sustainability, education, healthcare and livelihood enhancement.
