Lucknow, December 12, 2025: King George’s Medical University (KGMU), with support from Aditya Birla Capital Foundation (ABCF), the CSR arm of Aditya Birla Capital, and NGO partner CanKids, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Ward, strengthening access to advanced cancer treatment in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions.

The newly established BMT Ward is designed to offer affordable, high-quality transplant services, reducing the need for patients and families to travel outside the state for specialised care. The facility has been developed under a tripartite agreement between KGMU, Aditya Birla Capital and technical partners, with Phase I supported by CSR funding of ₹2.76 crore.

Following the successful completion of Phase I, Aditya Birla Capital has committed an additional ₹3.25 crore towards Phase II of the project. The next phase will focus on expanding capacity and strengthening critical infrastructure to support a higher volume of bone marrow transplant procedures.

Ms. Vishakha Mulye, MD & CEO, Aditya Birla Capital Limited, and Director, Aditya Birla Capital Foundation, said, “A nation’s strength lies in the health of its people, and every hospital built, every doctor trained, and every life saved is a step toward progress. When we laid the foundation for this Bone Marrow Transplant Ward last year, the vision was clear - to create a world-class facility for patients in need of advanced medical care. At Aditya Birla Capital, our purpose of ‘Enriching Lives, Winning as One’ goes beyond financial empowerment. We drive inclusive growth and development in healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihoods for underserved communities. What unites these pillars is our focus on a women-centric, life-cycle approach. I am confident this state-of-the-art facility will set new benchmarks in making life-saving bone marrow transplants accessible and affordable in the state and neighbouring regions.”

The BMT Ward represents a significant addition to Uttar Pradesh’s public healthcare infrastructure, particularly in oncology and paediatric cancer care, and is expected to benefit patients from across the region.

Aditya Birla Capital Foundation serves as the apex body guiding the social development initiatives of Aditya Birla Capital and its group companies. Operating under the mentorship of Smt. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson, Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives & Rural Development, the Foundation supports programmes across healthcare, education and livelihoods. It currently impacts more than 700,000 lives annually across 12 states, with women and girl children accounting for over 70% of beneficiaries.
