Mumbai, July 23, 2025: JSW Foundation has joined hands with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) to launch the JSW Centre for Climate Change and Health (JSW CCCH) at PHFI’s headquarters in Delhi NCR. The centre aims to support the Government of India’s efforts to mitigate the health impacts of climate change, aligned with the National Program for Climate Change and Human Health.
The JSW CCCH will focus on bridging critical gaps in skilled human resources, evidence-based research, and technical capabilities required to address the increasing health consequences of climate change in India.
“For every large societal problem, be it education, climate change or inequality, the collective should be driven towards creating effective and inclusive solutions. Health impacts of climate change are increasingly evident, and it is our responsibility to build a robust framework that can anticipate, respond, and mitigate these challenges. The JSW Centre for Climate Change and Health is a testament to our commitment to a healthier and more sustainable future for all,” said Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson, JSW Foundation.
Professor Sanjay Zodpey, President, PHFI, added, “The launch of the JSW Centre for Climate Change and Health at PHFI reinforces the commitment of PHFI and JSW Foundation towards building a Climate Resilient India. The Centre will focus on key priority areas to address the health impacts of climate change outlined in the Mission on Health under the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change. The Centre will build knowledge, capacity and expertise in strengthening health systems and health of communities.”
Key areas of focus for the JSW CCCH include:
- Capacity Building: Training policymakers, healthcare professionals, and public health workers with climate-health-specific modules.
- Research: Generating data and solutions on the health effects of climate change.
- Public Awareness: Developing materials for stakeholder engagement and conducting awareness campaigns.
- Policy Advocacy: Translating research into policy briefs, conducting roundtables, and publishing white papers.
- Collaborations: Partnering with national and international institutions in the climate-health space.
- Specialized Areas: Addressing issues like heatwaves, extreme weather events, food security, and non-communicable diseases through a One Health and Planetary Health lens.
- Decarbonisation: Promoting sustainable practices in healthcare, including clean energy and green procurement for hospitals.
The JSW CCCH is expected to play a crucial role in India’s strategy for climate resilience, public health preparedness, and sustainable development.
