New Delhi, August 10, 2026: ICICI Lombard, one of India’s leading private general insurers, has marked its 25th anniversary by distributing more than 25,000 ISI-certified helmets across 14 locations as part of its road safety initiatives.

The initiative, organised under the company’s flagship CSR programme, also included a road safety rally flagged off by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, in the presence of Mr. Sandeep Goradia, Chief - Retail, Business Strategy & Solutions Team, ICICI Lombard, along with government and police representatives.

As part of the campaign, ICICI Lombard is attempting a ‘Guinness World Records™ Title’ for the most helmets distributed in 12 hours across multiple venues. The initiative forms part of the company’s broader efforts to promote safer road behaviour and encourage the use of protective gear among road users.

ICICI Lombard said its road safety programme covers awareness, prevention and rehabilitation, with initiatives focused on behavioural change among parents and children, collaboration with traffic police, interventions in high-risk zones and rehabilitation support for accident victims through dedicated centres in Noida and Patna.

Since 2015, the company has distributed more than 7 lakh helmets and said its road safety initiatives have impacted over 2.5 million lives across India.

Speaking at the event, Shri Nitin Gadkari - Hon'ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, said, "I congratulate ICICI Lombard on their 25th anniversary. The road safety initiatives of the company are commendable, having distributed over 7 lakh helmets and impacted over 2.5 Million lives since 2015. Road safety is a shared national responsibility that requires the collective efforts of government, institutions, industry and every road user. While we continue to strengthen road infrastructure, vehicle safety standards and enforcement, creating awareness and encouraging responsible road behaviour remain equally important. Sustained community engagement, particularly among young people and families, can play a significant role in reducing road accidents and saving lives.”

Mr. Sandeep Goradia – Chief - Retail, Business Strategy & Solutions Team, ICICI Lombard, said, "At ICICI Lombard, we believe that protecting lives extends beyond insurance. Every day, hundreds of precious lives are lost on Indian roads, making road safety not only a policy priority but also a shared national responsibility. Through our Road Safety initiatives, we are fostering responsible road behaviour, encouraging safer choices, and empowering communities to build a stronger culture of road safety across India. As part of our 25-year celebration, we are distributing 25,000 helmets and attempting a ‘Guinness World Records™ Title’, reaffirming our commitment to creating safer roads. From advocating safer driving practices and providing helmets to vulnerable groups, to collaborating with traffic police, supporting augmented road infrastructure through zero fatality corridors and enabling rehabilitation for accident victims, our goal is to help reduce fatalities and create lasting, meaningful change on India's roads."

According to the information shared by ICICI Lombard, India recorded more than 4.80 lakh road accidents and over 1.70 lakh fatalities in 2024, with two-wheeler riders accounting for 46.2% of fatalities. Against this backdrop, the company’s initiative combines helmet distribution with awareness and community engagement aimed at promoting safer commuting practices.

The insurer said its road safety work will continue to focus on preventive awareness, responsible road behaviour, protective equipment and support for accident victims.
