Udaipur, October 07, 2025: Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has announced that its animal welfare and biodiversity initiatives have positively impacted more than 8.7 lakh animals since 2016 through health camps, rescue operations, and habitat restoration efforts. The company’s latest investment of ₹5 crore towards developing the Baghdarra Crocodile Conservation Reserve marks a significant step in its sustainability agenda.
The MoU with the Udaipur Forest Department aims to restore crocodile habitats through afforestation with 5,000 saplings, construction of water conservation structures, and development of eco-trails to promote responsible tourism. The project will benefit over 200 species in the ecosystem while supporting community-led eco-tourism and livelihood opportunities for local residents.
Arun Misra, CEO – Hindustan Zinc, said, “Animal welfare and biodiversity conservation are at the heart of our sustainability agenda. Our interventions not only protect endangered and native species but also improve the health and resilience of livestock that rural communities depend on. These initiatives reaffirm our belief that ecological conservation and community prosperity go hand in hand.”
The company has also developed a Peacock Conservation Park at its Kayad Mine and created nurseries for endangered flora at Kayad and Rampura Agucha mines to enhance biodiversity in mining areas. Hindustan Zinc has additionally installed bird nesting stations, butterfly gardens, and water ponds across its operational sites to create microhabitats and improve ecosystem balance.
Through its partnership with The Animal Care Organization (TACO), a Vedanta Group initiative, Hindustan Zinc continues to expand animal welfare programs, including its Animal Welfare Centre, Animal Health Camps, Lumpy Skin Disease prevention drive, and Reflective Collar distribution for livestock. These efforts have improved animal health and productivity while supporting farmer livelihoods.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), Hindustan Zinc integrates scientific conservation, community participation, and sustainability in its operations. The company continues to demonstrate that industrial growth and ecological preservation can progress together.
