New Delhi, January 24, 2026: FITT IIT Delhi hosted the official announcement of the WaveX Accelerator, a startup acceleration initiative under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s media, AVGC-XR, broadcasting, and entertainment technology startup ecosystem.
The announcement was made during a WaveX Startup Mixer and book launch event organised at FITT, IIT Delhi, bringing together students, startups, investors, and ecosystem leaders. WaveX will operate through a nationwide incubation network that includes FITT IIT Delhi and partners such as T-Hub Hyderabad, IICT Mumbai, FTII Pune, SRFTI Kolkata, multiple Indian Institutes of Mass Communication (IIMCs), and other innovation hubs.
The event also marked the launch of The Groundbreaker by entrepreneur Kanwal Rekhi. Proceedings included a welcome address by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, followed by opening remarks from Prof. Banerjee, Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Managing Director, FITT IIT Delhi, and Mr. Rekhi. Mr. Rekhi also addressed participants on entrepreneurial leadership and innovation within the WaveX framework.
The programme outlined how WaveX will provide startups with access to incubation support, IIT research labs, faculty mentorship, intellectual property support, and investor linkages, leveraging FITT’s role as an industry–academia interface.

The WaveX Accelerator is positioned as a key platform to support scalable startups in animation, gaming, extended reality, AI-driven content, and digital media platforms. Through policy support from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and operational execution by FITT and partner institutions, WaveX aims to strengthen India’s position in the global media and entertainment technology landscape.
