New Delhi / Rourkela, 15th April, 2020: In a bid to fight with Covid-19 infection, SAIL collaborated with Odisha Government for setting up a Covid-19 testing lab at SAIL- Rourkela Steel Plant’s Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and made it ready for sample testing.
In a statement issued, the company said, "Under the guidance of Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, SAIL and Odisha government jointly have set up the COVID-19 Testing Lab at SAIL- Rourkela Steel Plant’s IG Hospital."
While all the major equipment for the testing facility have been provided by Odisha government, the infrastructure has been provided by SAIL-RSP. Doctor and paramedics of Ispat General Hospital trained at RMRC, Bhubaneswar and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar will carry out the testing, says the statement.
Nasal and throat swab collected from the suspected persons of the surrounding region will be tested at the Laboratory of IGH. It normally takes around 6 to 7 hours to get the results of a batch of samples.
It is noteworthy that the testing lab facility at IGH will be of great help in quick identification of Corona virus patients and containment of the disease.
Earlier, SAIL-RSP had supplied 5 ventilators to the Odisha government few days ago and has been continually working along with local state administration to provide medical facilities in the fight against Corona.
It should be noted that novel coronavirus Covid-19 has taken entire world into grip. Odisha and other Indian states are also struggling to control the spread of the virus. In Odisha, Bhubaneswar is emerging as the lone hotspot in Odisha with 45 COVID-19 positive cases being recorded till Tuesday.
The State government has assigned senior administration officials to be in overall charges of containment and prevention of the disease in the city. So far, no treatment has been found and all governments are focusing on more testing.
