Hyderabad, September 25, 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has announced a leadership transition at its GreenCo Council, with Mr. Vikram Kasbekar assuming the role of Chairman, succeeding Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, who has led the council since its inception in 2011.

Under Mr. Bhargava’s leadership, the GreenCo movement grew into a pioneering industry-led sustainability framework, covering more than 1,500 companies and over 1,000 rated plants across 27 sectors. The Council’s initiatives delivered more than ₹5,136 crores in cost savings, significant reductions in carbon emissions, and progress in resource conservation and water management. GreenCo also gained recognition at international platforms, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and India’s INDCs under the UNFCCC.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Bhargava said, “It is with great pride and satisfaction that I hand over the reins of GreenCo to Mr. Vikram Kasbekar. His expertise and passion for sustainability make him the ideal leader to advance GreenCo’s mission and navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Taking charge, Mr. Kasbekar outlined his vision for expanding GreenCo’s reach. He said, “GreenCo today is a powerful movement with over 1,000 active rated plants across multiple sectors, tens of thousands of trained professionals, and growing regional forums driving sustainability action at scale. My goal is to accelerate this momentum by expanding GreenCo’s footprint across industries, increasing grassroots engagement through more regional chapters, and scaling capacity building to equip professionals with critical sustainability skills.”

Mr. Kasbekar also emphasized the need for fostering green supply chains, rigorous net zero certifications, and the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and IoT for environmental performance management. GreenCo will continue to focus on sector-specific programs, particularly in hard-to-abate industries like steel, cement, and chemicals, while strengthening collaborations with government, academia, and international partners.
